Over 200 species of trees can be found in one hectare of the Colombian Amazon.
The western or upper Amazon in the countries of Colombia and neigbouring Ecuador and Peru have the highest plant diversity in the world. This area has over a fifth of all the plant species on the planet, with many yet to be discovered species.
