San Andrés is the capital of the San Andrés y Providencia department. It is situated at the north end of
San Andrés Island. The town is popular for shopping due to cheaper goods resulting from tax breaks and is the gateway to some great beaches and nearby
Providencia Island.
The official language is Spanish, but the predominant culture is Anglo Caribbean, the language CREOLLE, an English and french mixture, is talked by the natives. The locals almost resent Colombian rule, but they derive most of their income from tourists from the Colombian mainland.
