Ciudad Salitre is one of the more desirable neighborhoods of Bogota. Situated in the west, it has two shopping malls (Plaza and Great Salitre Station), a chapel, a college (Agustiniano Ciudad Salitre), the chamber of commerce of Bogota, the U.S. embassy, German embassy, the genaral Prosecutor's Office, the Court of Cundinamaraca, the Governor of Cundinamarca, and the corporate offices of the El Tiempo (Colombia's largest newspaper).
Perhaps the most famous or visible attraction in Ciudad Salitre is the Maloka Museum which is a science and technology center which promotes 'learning through play' and is the largest of its kind in South America. It has over 200 displays spread across
nine rooms, which deal in topics ranging from life in the universe,
human beings, cities, children, biodiversity, technology,
electromagnetism, molecules to movement etc. There are also restaurants and
Internet cafes, and a large format children's cinema.
