Casanare is located in the central eastern region of the country. Its 
capital is Yopal. It contains oil fields and an 800km pipeline leading to the coastal port of Coveñ.
Casanaresuffers from mismanagement, corruption, and organized crime.
Paramilitaries or guerrilla groups are prominent in local communities and puts this department in a notorious area known as the Zona Rojo or “Red Zone” where cocaine smugglers have a flourishing trade.
