Bighorn sheep is a species of sheep in Canada and the USA. It has large horns weighing up to 30 pounds (14 kg), while the sheep themselves weigh up to 300 pounds (140 kg). The bighorn sheep originally crossed over the Bering land bridge from Siberia. The population in North America at one time peaked in the millions, but by 1900 the population had dropped to several thousand. Conservation efforts have and continue to restore the population.
